Live Online Reading Intervention for Older Students

Most reading intervention was designed for young children, not adolescents. Reading Futures serves students in grades four and up who are reading far below grade level. We use age-appropriate, science-based methods that reach students who have felt years of failure. Our goal: help every student become a confident, independent reader.

For Older Struggling Readers

  • Every older struggling reader has a story. Whether navigating learning loss, dyslexia, or emerging English proficiency, our tutors meet students exactly where they are.

  • Using age-appropriate, research-based methods, we build the strategies students need to unlock multisyllabic words, expand vocabulary, and access grade-level text.

  • And as skills grow, so does confidence. Students who once gave up on reading begin to discover what they are truly capable of.

Expert Teachers

  • Our teachers are state-certified, with an average of twelve years of classroom experience and more than 50 hours of specialized training and mentoring in reading intervention.

  • Many of our teachers are military spouses who bring a deep sense of purpose and community to their work, choosing to teach virtually as an act of service.

  • We invest in relationships as much as instruction. Our teachers take the time to know their students, helping them set personal reading goals and build the confidence to meet them.

Grounded in Word Reading

  • Word reading is the core challenge for students with dyslexia and significant reading difficulties. We target it directly, systematically, and with metacognitive strategies that teach students to think through any unfamiliar word on their own.

  • From blending and rhyming to morphology, we cover the full range of efficient, generalizable decoding strategies built to work across any subject or setting.

  • When students can pause, apply a strategy, and push through independently, confidence follows.

Building to Knowledge

  • We focus on the words that matter most, building the core academic vocabulary students need to make meaning in school and beyond.

  • Through the Topic Reads series from textproject.org, students read engaging informational texts covering science and social studies topics directly relevant to their grade-level classes.

  • As skills and vocabulary grow, so does curiosity. Students who once saw reading as a barrier begin to experience it as a gateway to knowledge, ideas, and the world around them.

Delivering Results

  • In a large-scale RCT, we delivered statistically significant effect sizes of 0.31-0.35 on DIBELS and iReady

  • On iReady, our average student routinely gains more than a year’s typical growth in a semester

  • Most important, our students transform from non-readers to readers – grades go up, self-confidence improves
